When the club initially organized they held several rendezvous type shoots. The event that seemed to attract the most interest was the winter shoot held in February. The first few shoots in February were just called a winter rendezvous. It soon became apparent that while the participants were enjoying themselves they were also freezing their backsides off. Thus the name "Frozen Butt" naturally evolved.
Due to the great shooting and camping opportunities provided at this new location the shoot has grown in size and popularity every year since. In 2000 the 20th anniversary Frozen Butt, at their no longer temporary location, had well over 110 registered shooters with over 100 additional campers and visitors. The 2003 Frozen Butt was the biggest ever with over 55 camps and over 130 shooters. With participants coming from all over the state of Kansas as well as Nebraska, Missouri and Oklahoma the Frozen Butt has become one of the largest muzzleloading events in the state of Kansas. We look forward to many great rendezvous to come.
